A window in your pouch? Easy - here's how it works

A clear window on your stand-up pouch builds instant trust – your customers see the product right through the film. Discover which shapes and positions work best, how the window is created in print, and which finish (crystal clear or lightly frosted) suits your brand.
Sichtfenster im Beutel? Ganz einfach – so geht`s

A viewing window is one of the simplest ways to instantly build more trust in your brand. Your customers see the product directly through the pouch - and that's exactly what makes the difference on the shelf. The effect is especially powerful for food, sweets, supplements, snacks, or anything where color, texture, or consistency matters.

And the best part: you're not limited to a standard window. Shape, position, quantity - all of that is up to you.

The viewing window is created directly in your print file

Because your window is defined within the layout itself, you have maximum creative freedom. Simply put: you decide what gets printed and where the pouch stays transparent.

  • The shape: from clean and geometric to a fully custom look
  • The position: wherever it makes the strongest impact in your layout
  • And if you like: multiple windows on your packaging

Popular window shapes

The classics are circle, oval, or rectangle - they work on almost any layout and always look clean. For a more subtle approach, a narrow strip (a kind of "viewing bar") creates the effect of a small peek inside. A diagonal cut, on the other hand, makes a modern statement and brings movement to your design.

Things get really interesting when you use custom shapes: your logo's silhouette, a coffee bean, a leaf, or the shape of your product itself. And for anyone packaging powder, snacks, or capsules, fill-level windows are a true classic - functional and visually striking at the same time.

Where should you place your window?

Placement has a huge impact on how your packaging looks. A window at the bottom of the stand-up pouch feels classic and product-focused - your contents get the spotlight they deserve right away. Placing the window in the center is even more prominent: your product is literally front and center.

For a modern, premium look, a side placement works beautifully: subtle, but effective. A window positioned higher up works great as a small "peek" or a fill-level check. And if you want to really stand out on the shelf, an off-center placement is the way to go: unexpected, eye-catching, and with a touch of editorial flair.

But how does the window actually get into the pouch?

It sounds magical, but it's actually quite simple. We print on a transparent PP film. Wherever color is applied, the film becomes opaque. Wherever we want it to stay transparent, we simply leave it blank.

In practice, that means:

  • To make your print colors look rich and opaque, we print a white base layer beneath the CMYK colors.
  • To create a transparent window, you simply leave that area completely empty in your print file - no color and no white base layer.

Crystal clear or slightly matte? Your choice!

It's not just the shape that determines how your window looks - the finish of your packaging plays a role too:

  • Perfectly clear: Choose the gloss lamination. Your viewing window will be crystal clear and let your product shine in full color.
  • Slightly matte (frosted): Go with the matte or soft-touch finish. Your window will have a subtle frosted look - understated, elegant, and with a premium feel.

It all comes down to the look you want for your brand.
